My Number Card is a numerical register of Natural Person in Japan, therefore, it’s a number requested at the time of the income tax return. Created to correct a delay in scanning documents, it makes life easier for citizens.
When registering with City Hall, you’re required to request the issuance of My Number. This document has other purposes such as assisting when opening a bank account and to replace your mandatory Health Insurance in Japan (as long as it’s registered) and especially for your tax return.
With My Number, you can obtain, for example, a copy of your Residence Registration, directly from the copiers in convenience stores, without having to go to the City Hall. To do this, just take your My Number to a convenience store and request it along with other documents through the copier (see below).
