One of the most expensive costs of pregnancy is, certainly, the amount you have to pay hospitals for childbirth in Japan. These range from 400,000 to 600,000 yen, depending on the hospital and the area you live in.
In order for this amount to be paid in part by the Japanese government, it is important that the pregnant woman or her spouse has public or company health insurance. In such cases there is a maternity allowance of about 420,000 yen that will be paid directly to the hospital where the child was born.
To receive this allowance, you must apply in advance to the hospital. For more information, please contact the hospital or the city hall.
