A foreign mother may face some barriers to giving birth in Japan such as language, cultural differences, differences in medical treatment, so many doubts arise. Because of this, local prefectures offer post-birth care activities and most of them are subsidized by the government.

You can take advice from a public health nurse, in case you don’t feel well physically after giving birth.

If you do not have family support for childcare and are feeling distressed, among other concerns, it is possible to receive, using public subsidy, care and advice from obstetric nurses and other professionals in hospitals, birthing centers, and other specialized facilities.I There are overnight services, day visits to the facility, and also home visit services.

In addition to subsidized support activities, some are completely free.

Depending on the local municipality, there are child-rearing support groups, with mother and baby health promoters and senior residents, people with experience and skills in child-rearing, who visit the home and prepare activities during the period of pregnancy or already in the period of child-rearing. These meetings can be an opportunity to build friendships and exchange ideas and questions about daily life.
